It was a pleasant evening on the island. The sun had just begun its descent for the day, and a cool wind blew through the forest filling the air with the sound of leaves brushing against one another. Hidden underneath the shade the forest was providing sat Emily, her back placed against a tree. At her side sat her book bag which had one of its zippers pulled open, several textbooks peeking out as they began to slip outward. In her lap sat an open plain leather journal which she was marking into with a plastic pen.
This is peaceful.
Staring down at the thought she had recorded, she couldn't help but feel strange about everything that had transpired. The school year was just getting started, and it was the first one where she could really say that she was free from everything that was stopping her from interacting with others. Yet so far all she had managed to do was glare at some cute boy who had tried to introduce himself to her. It had become so normal to not even have to listen to others that it had just simply come as a reaction. Exhaling deeply in frustration, she hastily scribbled more into the notebook.
So I should try more. I'll start by finding what's-his-name. Apologize.
Closing the journal, she shifted her weight against the tree until she managed to get comfortable and shut her eyes, idly listening to the sounds nature. This certainly wasn't something she could get back at the campus and most definitely not at home. Maybe this could be her new hideout.
